1. Wash your hair! Get rid of product build up! It clogs up your pores which causes your hair follicles to become blocked.
2. Moisturize your hair properly inside and out! Make sure you are drinking water!! Use some type of liquid like water or aloe vera juice on your hair and seal it with some type of oil or butter cream. Moisturize before you need it. Do not wait until your hair becomes dry and desperate for moisture. Keep your hair strong!
3. Do not over shampoo. Co-wash (wash your hair with conditioner (Co for conditioner)) your hair so that you do not strip your hair of it’s natural oils.
4. Trim your hair! You can trim your hair yourself or you can have a hairstylist trim your hair. Frequency of trimming depends on the hair so pay close attention!
5. Try low manipulation hair styling. Tugging and pulling on your hair causes stress on the hair and can damage your hair. If you decide to do a slick back look or a tight high bun, give your hair time to bounce back; about 2 weeks should do.
6. Take your time when detangling, brush/comb from ends to roots. It may be best to work in small to medium sections. Use a wide tooth comb and/or a detangling brush. Try finger detangling more often! There is less damage when finger detangling. Avoid combs and brushes if you can!
7. Be gentle when removing rubber bands or hair ties from your hair. Do not yank at the hair. Try to avoid using any hair accessories with metal in them because metal can rip out the hair.
8. Use protective styling! It allows your hair to relax, breathe, and grow without manipulation. Make sure the protective style is installed gently. Hair should not be pulled or too tight. Treat your hair great when in a protective style!
9. Watch the foods you eat! What you put in your body could affect your hair.
10. It is not a race! It is a marathon! No hair is the same. Try not to pay attention to your hair growth. It will only cause frustration.
